Bike Races are Third Places: Cycling in the PNW

Joy, dirt, sweat, crashes, blood, smiles, community. I've been documenting the cycling scene in Western Washington, immersing myself in the sport I fell in love with as a child. From disciplines I've long been familiar with, like XC MTB and Road, to ones that are new to me, like Cyclocross and Track. These images capture the joy and beauty of living fast on two wheels and the people who make this sport special.

A "third place" in sociology is a space outside of work or the home where people connect over shared interests and build community. This project is part of my ongoing explorations of sports as thriving "third places" in a society where "third places" are quickly vanishing.
